As a Scottish painter educated in the Nordic expressionistic tradition, MacEwean’s work took a dramatic turn when he when he set up residence in Mallorca. Since then, interrelating the aspects of his own cultural background with features more characteristic of Mediterranean painting, though avoiding its clichés, became a challenge that MacEwean has applied to investigating forms hitherto unknown in the theme of landscape.

Geoff MacEwan_Ramanull
Ramanull is MacEwan's first publication with Benveniste Contemporary. The artist worked on a 140 x 70 cm. large copper plate and for each manipulation effectuated, a small edition of 5 samples was taken. This process was continued over the course of 6 processes and techniques, ending with the near complete erasing of the entire surface, a process that took the artist several days.
