Ann-Sofi Sidén (Stockholm, Sweden, 1962) belongs to a generation of artists who developed an anti-formal approach in the 1980s using performance and film as essential components of their work. Her portrayals of the human mind resemble research projects into the history of mentality, where the recurring subjects are vulnerability, exposure, surveillance and control. She seeks out the hidden conflicts and frictional twilight zones of our contemporary power structures.

Ann-Sofi Sidén’s After the fact is the fragmented story – told from a number of different perspectives – of a young woman who leaves her infant child in the baby hatch of a Berlin hospital. This act of desperation sets into motion a narrative following two parallel journeys, one of the orphaned child and another of the child’s mother.
