Alison Wilding

Travelling light is a series of monotypes produced by the artist in 2001.The prints are literally hand-painted in the sense that no brushes were used. This was the artists' first encounter with monotype, a technique that came naturally to Wilding's temperament due to the spontaneous nature of the process and direct result.

The new prints constitute an entire body of work, made in an intense two week period in September 2010. Behind their apparent simplicity and immediacy lies a process of experimentation, hilarity and despair, only realised with the superb technical back up from the workshop. There is a pattern to my association with Dan Benveniste, which began in 1994; from the anarchy of his workshop he pushes my ideas into the realm of the possible. And whilst most of the sculptures have been made extremely slowly, it is unsurprising that there are correspondences between them and the prints, both past and present.

Dogs is a series of large-scale diptychs in which the artist explore the posibilites of etching with monotype combined.

Species is a suite of 6 etchings. By the time of their realisation, the artist was well versed in the etching techniques and took charge in the development of the varios states of each plate.

Species is offered as a complete set as well as individual prints.

Wilding speaks to us about forms that are permanently developing under a stoical surface that recognises body and matter as the primary state of knowledge. The artist maintains a complex relationship with form that shouldn’t mislead us: the sensuality of her work and its reticence is loaded with the material that shapes civilisations and myths.
